As the semester is coming to an end, finals are approaching quickly. Just the thought of finals can fill students with stress and worry. However, there are many study tips to use to destress but still stay focused and successful during finals week.
The first thing to help you better prepare is organize your study space. Most likely, you will be contained to that location for an extended period of time, so keep it clean and tidy. Put away any distracting items that could draw your attention away from your studies. If you have many random papers floating around your study space, be sure to place those away from your study guides. You do not want your papers getting mixed in with unrelated topics from different classes.
Another tip is reviewing old exams. If you have all the correct answers for a past exam, it is a great idea to read over them. In some classes, the same questions on a past exam will reoccur on the final. This can keep you familiar with the style of questions the professor may ask.
The next tip is to work with other students in that class. With doing so, you can bounce ideas off each other and make sure you are all on the same track. This also allows you to explain the correct answer out loud to someone else which will ultimately help you retain the information.
Two more tips that are very important is to take a study break and munch on brain food. Studying can become overwhelming, and at some point your brain seems to get tired. Taking a break can help you regain your focus and stamina to get back to the books. Get up and move around for your break. After sitting down for a long period of time, our body become relaxed, which makes us tired. Moving around will help wake your mind and body back up. While on this break, take the time to make a good snack.
There are many healthy snacks that will boost your memory and brain power. For example, items with whole grains like specific cereals will help you stay energized. Other great snacks are blueberries, pumpkin seeds, carrots, and dark chocolate. Also, don’t be afraid to grab a cup of coffee.
The last tip for successful studying and exams days are to plan them out ahead. Whether you use a planner or just sticky notes, write down your whole agenda for that day. Start with what you will make for breakfast. A good breakfast will get your body going and be a jump start to a successful day.
