7 seniors honored at final home game

Friend and family gathered at the Madonna Athletic Center for Madonna softball’s Senior Day. On April 13, against conference opponents Aquinas, Madonna honored seven seniors. The Crusaders won the first game but lost the second, still honoring the seniors who made an impact on Madonna softball this season.
Senior outfielder, Becky Giacobbi will be graduating this spring with a major in biology and a minor in chemistry. She has appeared in 34 games , starting 25 of those. In 56 at bats, she has an average batting percentage of .286. Giacobbi is WHAC All-American and NAIA Scholar Athlete. Giacobbi left a lasting impression on Madonna Softball with a positive attitude each and every day.
Sophomore outfield, Rebecca Barnes was a good friend of Becky’s.
“Becky is always a sweetheart to everyone, everyday she has a great attitude and I don’t think she’s ever said a negative thing” she said.
Haley Izworski, catcher for the Crusaders, will also be graduating Madonna with a major in biology and a minor in chemistry. She was appeared in 18 games, starting 13. Izworski has a batting average of .226 in 31 at-bats She has earned the WHAC All- American team award and NAIA Scholar Athlete.
Senior shortstop, Jordan Johnson will be graduating with a major in criminal justice. As All Conference- second team award, she has appeared in 42 games with a batting average of .333 the fourth best average on the team.
Third base senior Kerstyn Comerzan has appeared in 40 games starting 36 of which, with a batting average of .193. Comerzan has 109 plate appearances with seven double and one triple. She earned WHAC All-Team American and will be graduating with a major in biology.
“Madonna softball was a great experience, not only did I meet my best friends but it taught me how to manage my time while being able to juggle school,work and softball. Along with how to work as a team and how to work with different minded people” she said.
Utility player, Jordan Thayer will be graduating this spring with a major in nursing. She has appeared in 26 games with a batting average of .083. Thayer has earned WHAC All- Academic Team Award along with NAIA Scholar Athlete.
Senior first baseman Halee Warren, has 42 game appears, starting 40 of them. She as a batting percentage of .342, the third best of the team. In 117 at-bats, she has hit eight doubles and three triples along with five home runs. Warren will be graduating with a degree in hospitality and tourism management.
“My experience was nothing but great! I may not have had the best four years playing as I could have but in the end it was worth it. I has some learning experiences and made some lifelong friends. As injuries are playing a role in my ability to play this season, it is time to graduate and move on. My time at Madonna was great as a whole!” explained Warren.
Final senior, second baseman Kassidy Lipinski. However, Lipinski did not make an impact on the field she was a big factor in keeping the players positive and energys high.
Good friend of Lipinski’s and shortstop Avra DeYoung, thought Madonna Softball was better with her in it.
“Kassidy is one of the silliest people I’ve ever met, she is constantly dancing and coming up with new cheers. The energy in the dugout is much better with her in it. She keeps me positive throughout the season even when it gets tough” DeYoung explained.
Madonna softball is looking to wrap up their regular season with five more conference games against, Rochester College, Cornerstone University, Concordia University, Lourdes University, and Siena Heights University.
